Freaky Fzx Friday - ICE 2

Freaky Fzx Friday was a new thing this year and it's been quite popular so I'll be continuing it for years to come.  For our last installment of the year we'll reprise my favorite topic.

Toddlers love ice.  They play with the ice cubes in their drinks and love to suck on those plastic tubes filled with flavored sugar ice.  Silicone trays for shaped ice cubes make it even more fun.

apparently NOT recommended - choking hazard

My ice obsession has continued and I've written stories about ice than about anything else:
  • Strange ice crystals on Little Pine Creek after a big freeze - LINK
  • Interesting ice puddle formations - LINK
  • Ice at Fall Run Park - LINK
  • Family ice time in Etna LINK
Derek from Vertitasium on YouTube has a similar obsession since my "Veritasium Ice" YouTube search yielded at least 7 video results.  Here's his latest on "ice spikes."

I remember seeing those spikes in my freezer years ago and wondering about how they were formed.  Now I know.  And just in case you're thinking of ice fishing, keep this temperature inversion in mind since water is most dense at 40 F

But don't think that the fish just live in the warm parts of the pond - the dissolved oxygen level decreases as the depth increases.

Ice - a lifelong obsession.
