Freaky Fzx Friday - ICE

Observe your world.

Last year I was wandering the crazy cold with the boys and found these Crystals on the Crick.  I did the same yesterday and found more.

Puddles freeze as they evaporate and soak into the ground.

Water feeds tall trees because it sticks to itself.  And it stick to other stuff too.  Play with water and you'll see.  It also forms a Star Trek deflector shield around itself we call surface tension.  This clip from The Slow Mo Guys is astonishing:

Imagine being teeny enough that you could walk on water using surface tension.  I'm pretty sure Jesus did not use this principle when he did it.

Now back to my pictures of puddles.  At least we can see these without a Phantom Flex or an electron microscope.

This next one is from the swimmin hole on Lil Pahn Crik under the railroad trestle.  It's a 4 foot by 10 foot section and much beautifuler in person.

And here's some dirt.  But it's frozen and heaved by ice.  Look down the next time you walk on crunchy dirt that's been cold for a while.  You might see Fzx.

My children and I will be content if our contribution to science consists entirely of playing with dirt and puddles.
