We speak Spanish at home most of the time - exclusively Spanish to our kids. Elias initially hated it when I spoke to him in English "No, Papi. Espanhol." He's almost five now and communicates effectively in English but expresses himself extremely well in Spanish.
Elias went through the same thing at Misael's age. He spoke limited English but thanks to a few hours of preschool a week, he's ready for kindergarten and he'll do well.
So, the answer is "No!" We're not worried that our children won't speak English since TV, radio, friends, family - everything and everyone here are all English.
We are, however, concerned that he won't be Spanish literate. So we'll continue to speak Spanish at home and we'll step up the Spanish literacy push as the kids get older.
I hope our dinner times are always as giggly and screechy as the one above. And may your family be blessed with the same.
