Tek Tip 2sD - Extension Cords

Unlike many things in life, shorter is better for extension cords.  Fatter too.

Longer = more resistance = more VOLTAGE LOSS and more HEAT LOSS

Thicker WIRES = lower resistance = LESS voltage loss and LESS heat loss

This is an appliance extension cord.  They are for refrigerators or window AC units since they draw a lot of power. 3 feet long.

Anything that puts out heat uses a lot of current and we have to be careful.

Jumper cables are just car extension cords so the same rules apply.  Smaller gage number is better - that means it's thicker.

Just make sure you connect the jumper cables properly or there is a tiny chance of fire or explosion resulting from sparks when that last connection is made.

Here's how to do it right.  Pay attention to the last connection.  It's important.
